Discussion: Superintendent Todd Herman explained the Memorandum of Understanding between Conotton Valley and the Tuscarawas County General Health District regarding services the Health District will provide, per the requirements of Conottons Drug-Free Workplace and drug testing policy. Herman explained that during the school year, each month ten students and five staff members will be randomly selected for drug testing. The testing will be administered by a mouth swab. Herman advised that this testing will cost the district less than $3,000 per year, but he feels that it will give students a reason to say NO. He pondered that there is no telling how many lives this could save as there seems to be a drug problem throughout the entire country. Herman further explained that parents will have to sign a consent form for the testing, and if this is refused, the student will not be able to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as sports, choir, cheerleading, and class trips.
